What is Data Mining?

Data mining is a business process for exploring large amounts of data to discover meaningful patterns and rules. (Linoff and Berry 2011) This definition is quite explanatory. If it is cut into meaningful parts, data mining will be contained of;
1. A business process
2. Exploring large amounts of data
3. Discover meaningful patterns and rules
A business process:
It has large amounts of data which is composed with rows and columns as input, and various operations like classifying and clustering, and meaningful information as output. That's why it is a process and if a business process makes use of a data mining process, it will be a business process. Especially customer relationship management systems are in communication with data mining processes in finely operated CRM systems.
